Our Rig

Winnebago EKKO

2024 Winnebago EKKO Class C | Name: Eagle

  • Raw Sienna Graphics
  • Veredis Interior Color Scheme
  • Entertainment System – Moved to Bedroom area
  • Stock single lithium battery (320 Amp Hours which is roughly 3840 watt hours) and Generator. We added a second lithium battery which doubles our capacity (640 Amp Hours roughly 7680 watt hours)
  • Carefree Awning
  • Batwing Awning
  • Roof Rack
  • We did not get the tailgate package (outside kitchen) which at first wanted, but now glad we do not have it. More on this in the exterior mods section.

We bought the Winnebago EKKO as it allows us to travel the way we anticipate. At only 23 feet long and ALL-Wheel-Drive it is nimble and can be easily parked. The EKKO can go where some other rigs can’t. Three solar panels on the roof allows for 455-watts, a second alternator dedicated to charging the lithium-ion batteries while driving plus a generator makes a great boondocking rig. We opted for the one lithium battery and the generator package instead of no generator and two lithium batteries. Since we travel with two cats we wanted the generator for AC if needed. We added a second lithium battery and installed a DC-DC Charging Kit from FreedomVanGo. This doubles our capacity and allows for faster charging as it will now use both the Ford alternator and the Winnebago Balmer alternator to charge batteries when engine is running or you are driving.

The 50-gallon freshwater tank and 51 gallon grey water tank along with a cassette toilet make extended stays possible. Truma propane heat and hot water is run on two standard LP 20 lb. tanks. Most importantly as we live in a colder climate all tanks and water lines are located inside the coach above the floor, extensive all-season insulation in the roof, walls and floor, dual-pane acrylic windows, and multiple insulated and heated exterior compartments, the camping season does not end for us when the temperature drops.

When the temperature rises there is 13,000 btu air conditioner that can be run for a limited time on batteries or extended times on generator or shore power. We can camp in state parks or almost anywhere without hook-ups.

Updates to 2023+ Winnebago EKKO

The early production models had some issues and recalls that is not totally surprising on a brand new model from Winnebago. After 2023 improvements were made to the Ford Chassis and the Couch. Some I feel are significant. Our 2024 EKKO on a 2023 Ford Transit chassis has these updates.

Ford Chassis

Keyless Entry and Push-to-Start – The 2023 Ford Transit chassis is now equipped with Ford Intelligent Access which allows you to access your vehicle without having to reach for your keys. The system allows you to lock your cab doors with the use of a touch sensitive location on the back of either cab door handle. It also has keyless entry with an additional touch sensitive location on the front of the cab door handles to unlock the EKKO. Proximity lock/unlock is included as well for the cab doors. This system also replaced the ignition key with a push button start.

Grille – Previously equipped with a chrome surround, the honeycomb mesh grille now has a carbon black surround.

Center Console – The center console has been resized to provide additional cab seat space and access.

Additional Chassis Updates:

  • New Blind Spot Monitor System – Blind Spot Assist 1.0 replaces the previous system. With this change the alert displays were moved to the side exterior rearview mirrors.
  • Sensing Systems – An obstacle sensing system was added to the front and rear obstacle sensors to alert you of anything crossing you path.
  • Automatic Temperature Control – This system replaces the previous manual system.
  • Carbon Black Headlight Surround – A new black surround replaces the previous chrome surround on the high-intensity discharge headlights.
  • Front Wheel Well Liners – Liners were added to the new EKKO chassis to help prevent road spray and debris from accumulating under the EKKO.

2023+ Winnebago EKKO Coach Enhancements

Overhead Cabinet Swing Lift – Previously equipped with ceiling magnets to hold them open, the overhead cabinets in the EKKO now use a up-swing door lift that holds the cabinet securely in the open position and lowers them gently when closed.

Carpeted Overhead Cabinets – The overhead compartment bottom panels now include a soft-surface carpet to protect both the panel itself and your items from damage.

Bedroom Step Light – A dedicated wall switch for the bedroom step light replaces the motion sensor light.

Corner on Dinette Base – The dinette seat base cabinet now includes a protective metal corner.

Inverter Location – Previously, the inverter was accessible through a mid-passenger side compartment door. It is now located under the dinette seats.

Circuit Breaker Location – The circuit breaker had previously been located in the same exterior compartment as the inverter. It is now located on the side of the dinette near the inverter controls.

Additional Updates:

  • Shower Drain Pump – This has been relocated.
  • Windows – The EKKO now has Aluminum-framed window cassette shades and screens.
  • Compartment Doors – The exterior compartment doors now include latch spacer plates.

Our EKKO Mods

We had spent a very long time, years in fact researching RVs, visiting RV shows and watching tons of YouTube videos. We have learned a lot about which modification that worked and didn’t from others. Here are some of the modifications we made to our EKKO making it perfect for our needs and travel style. The list of mods is quite extensive with most being done before our first trip! Making an RV, home on wheels “your own” is part of the fun and adventure.
